In the past, I've had a bad habit of getting involved with a new fandom, only to be derailed when something else grabs my attention. I've recently found myself in a situation where I am juggling three different fandoms (Watchmen, Hellraiser, and Moonwalker) and it's been kind of awkward. But that's not the reason that my enthusiasm kind of trailed off. The real reason is, I kind of got dogpiled in a couple of comms (LJ and elsewhere) with folks who seemed convinced that Alan Moore is misogynist, any depiction of Laurie is misogynist by default because she's a "caricature of womanhood as Alan Moore sees it that can never be redeemed" or some shit like that - and basically made me feel like misogynist for writing her.

Long Rant Is Long. )

And I wrote fic.

I should probably save time and post this directly to [ profile] fuckyouwatchmen, but whatever. ;)

I couldn't resist.

(For those who haven't seen it yet: the second pic was inspired by this.)

This week.

I really don't want to go anywhere or do very much outside of my apartment this week, and I really don't have the funds to go out/clubbing/whatnot until I get paid on Thursday. Which is good, because I'll have plenty of time to clean my apartment and get it ready for the gliders who will be coming to live with me this weekend. I also need to clean off the patio porch.

The rat has not been seen since I put the traps down, which means he's probably aware that there are traps now. (THEY'RE SAFE TRAPS, BUDDY. YOU'D LIKE IT DOWN BY THE LAKE I PROMISE. <3) I know exactly where he's coming in, and I put in a work order this morning for the building maintenance folks to seal the hole up. We'll see what happens.

There's a lot of weird and wonderful stuff going on in the world of the Watchmen Film Fandom. Check out [ profile] watchdom for details. Here's a sample (ganked from the comm:)

Walter Kovacs + Pork N Beans = HELLO NEW WALLPAPER.

In other news: stayed up too late last night watching Bleach, and the new Franz Ferdinand album sounds great.

First off, I want to know who these cosplayers are, so I can give them MEDALS.

Sally Jupiter on one of Dubyah Bush's famous catch phrases. I made it two weeks ago, and I have no idea what to do with it. So here you go.

My arm is returning to normal after having pulled a muscle in my shoulder very badly the other day. Yay.

I saw Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro at a friend's house the other day. I'd seen some Lupin episodes and the OVA The Fuma Conspiracy, as well the endlessly looped intro to The Mystery of Mamo (at a table at a con when I was 14 - which was somewhat disturbingly scarring, to the point that the intro to Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei intro almost gave me a flashback the first time I saw it.) But this was, I admit, the first time I'd seen Castle Cagliostro. I think I'm going to have to go rent/netflix/buy them all now.

I'm archiving my Watchmen fic at the Pit now, as well as [ profile] flowerofsin's site. I'm still cleaning it up and revising it, as well as working on new chapters. Fifteen years after my first writing class in high school, I think I'm finally beginning to grasp the concept of "Show, don't tell."

I'm also working on a new/expanded fanmix now that I have a paid account with mediafire.

Watchmen will go forward on 3/6/09 as scheduled. :D

Come on, I was annoying as hell about the fact that Faux was fighting WB for the rights. Ya'll knew I was going to be just as annoying about the conclusion. :P Yeah, Faux gets paid. They still suck and I will not be seeing Wolverine in the theatre (or AT ALL if it sucks.)

Also, [ profile] ozonelayercake has issued an Oswald Bastable/Jerry Cornelius slash fic challenge, with bonus points for making it as Twilighty as possible. More on that as it develops.

So how about them Mavs?

Well, it's been a week of ups and downs. I still have the Cold That Will Not Die. Apparently it's going around. The last time I had one of these (last Spring) I got a shitload of writing done. However, it's just too nice out to barricade myself in my apartment like I did the last time. I really do need to work on my fic, though. I might get some running-around done, and then try to work on my Watchmen and Hellraiser fics in tandem.

According to the news feeds, WB and Faux are close to a settlement regarding the Watchmen film. It's about time, and Faux had better see reason (or at least dollar signs) or else I won't be spending another red cent on anything they produce ever again. Just sayin'.

I have nearly assembled my steampunk outfit for the upcoming Steampunk Night at Panoptikon. I've decided to go with devil-may-care airship mechanic as my persona. I'll take pics when it's done. I got some awesome goggles dirt-cheaply off of, but I need to do things to them to make them look more steampunk.

That's all for now!

- I saw the King Tut exhibit, and was reminded a great deal of Adrian Veidt. :P

- Speaking of Watchmen, someone on the Watchmen Comic Movie Forum linked me to this. I used to play the Occult Symbolism Game with just about every film I saw or book I read when I was a wee gothling.

Then there's this. I also posted this over on [ profile] watchdom:

The word on

One fan's personal crusade to protest FOX:

The petition:

...more on this as I find stuff. Also, I recommend we use a similar strategy to the one that the folks over at [ profile] aang_aint_white have employed with their letter-writing campaign:

- I got a crock pot AND and a food processor for xmas. WIN. I also got a plethora of gift cards, a scented candle, some coffee, random jewelry and some new shoes. But the kitchen-y stuff was what I wanted the most.

Have a Jon-style Comedian flashback sequence, LOL.

The Comedian is floating in the K-Hole, surrounded by images of his past. )

I found this pic of Jon Finch as Jerry Cornelius, and Michael Moorcock as himself (if not Seaton Begg. HEY SEATON DO YOU KNOW MIKE RAIDED YOUR WARDROBE) from when they were shooting the film adaption of The Final Programme. This was presumably taken before Mike knew they'd changed/butchered the ending.

And wow, someone put a clip from it up on youtube! And it's subtitled (though I can't tell in what.)

cut for youtube embeds )

Incidentally, the reprint of The Cornelius Quartet claims that the JC stories "inspired Alan's Moore's Watchmen Graphic Novels." I am trying to find a specific article or quote from AMoore that confirms this, and thus far I've only gotten a few hits from Mike's forum, and this article, though it seems that Alan Moore did write an into to the JC story Firing the Cathedral. Not that I disbelieve it - I'd just love to find the actual quote, if there is one. Hurm. Must investigate further.

ETA: Also, Adrian Veidt teaming up with Miss Brunner is the SCARIEST THING I CAN THINK OF, except SHE MIGHT EAT HIM. D: In that case, I'd be rooting for Adrian.

ETA II: From Alan Moore's forward to Firing the Cathedral: "Love at first sight. Cornelius cultists from the very start, asking their mums to get them ‘car coats’ like their hero, ending up in something waist-length, brown and made of Rayon fabric with a furry road-kill collar."

If anyone can find a pic of young Alan Moore outfitted as such, I will owe you the internet.

Tomrrow is the big day.

I'm going to be taking baked goods to an election-watching party. I don't want to say anything else, for fear that I'll jinx it. Just that I hope it's in the bag. I swear, if I see one more "TOO CLOSE TO CALL!" splashscreen again after the events of the past eight years.....

Also, more fic. I feel like I have more of a handle on Rorschach this time.

'I already heard on the radio,' Laurie told him, her voice raw-sounding as she eyed the headline of the Gazette on the bed beside her. )

...Is it wrong that I look at him and think, "YAY ~HAGRID!~"

Oh shit, he's going to hunt me down and kill me now, isn't he? D:

Anyway, here's another reason for him to do so...

Looking back, Laurie figured she should have known it was a set-up. )
