numb3r_5ev3n: Dragon pendant I got at a renfaire. (Nu Smith)
I realized where my recent re-obsession with the Dragon Court came from: and yes if you guessed it's another example of "I miss the old internet" you are correct.

There was yet another Tumblr post or Twitter thread I can remember from the past year to the tune of "if my 2004 self clicked on a modern website I'd assume something was horribly wrong and I had about a million viruses." Like you can't even go to a legitimate news site now without a billion banner ads and unrelated ads with maybe squicky clickbait images and headers like "DOCTORS HATE HER FOR THIS ONE SIMPLE WEIGHT LOSS TRICK" and shit that plays sound, and popups demanding that you accept or deny cookies before you proceed.

Forget "I'd assume my computer had a virus," 2004 me would assume my computer was possessed.

I keep having a dream of the old web not going away but just continuing along its way separate from the Facebook/Twitter/Insta/Tiktok Social Media arm. But that would mean more people taking the time and effort and money to consciously create stuff. In many cases, to remember how to code, or even to learn to code the first time. It might require subscriptions to things like neocities and wordpress and hosting services, while the social media platforms that prey on you and steal your information are all free.

Guys, there needs to be more of us out there with our own outfits than there are Kiwi Farmers and Channers. We need to take this shit back.

In other news: on Saturday I finally got my 4th covid shot (second booster?) Side effects this time were more annoying than debilitating. I'm off any SSRIs where increased heat sensitivity is a factor and I'm trying to get out more.
