1. I've been seeing the odd post or tweet lately on social media about how a Late Millennial or Gen Z person who suddenly understands the value of owning physical media. (i.e "I used to mock my older acquaintances' huge DVD collections or shelves of physical books, and now I suddenly understand why actually owning stuff is important.") I wonder what caused this sea change? Did a streaming service go under or something?
Speaking of this I recently undertook the effort to download all my purchases from ebook retailers and convert them to PDF, and they don't make it easy. Insert "this is stuff I paid, for it's mine, you don't get to tell me what I can't do with stuff I bought and paid for" rant right here.
So yeah:

2. Somewhere a while back, maybe in 2019 or so, someone did a tweet thread or tumblr post about how the reason Reactionaries are so defensive about "wokeness" "invading their media" even if it is what the author intended in the first place is because they see fiction as embodying an "unsullied truer truth" than reality and are offended by a presentation of real reality.
I wonder what Jean Baudrillard might think of the dorks melting down over PoC Elves and Valyrians and the anthropomorphic concept of Death if he were here. But really what it gets down to is that these people have a deep-seeded belief that they should not have to see PoC any more than they have to. Like, they may have to confront the prospect of seeing people who are darker than Khaki on the Sherwin Williams Paint chart in the real world. They don't want to see them in their fantasy media - to them it's like A Rule In The Social Contract has been breached and violated when it does happen.
This is behind every dork wringing their hands and screaming "THAT'S NOT THE POINT!" with their eyes screwed tightly shut when we point out that IT'S FANTASY WHAT DOES IT MATTER IF THE ELVES AND VALYRIANS ARE BLACK. Note that their next exclamation, once you get them past the weak little cop-out of 'tHe ShOwRuNnErS aReN'T rEsEpEcTiNg ThE LoRe!" (cue Neil Gaiman with a megaphone "I WROTE THE LORE!") is usually something to the effect of "I CONSUME FANTASY FICTION TO ESCAPE!" and yeah.
They don't want to acknowledge even the bare *existence* of PoC more than they have to. That's what this is.
Like ultimately modern white supremacy taken to its most logical extreme is "I want to wipe out this particular subset of people because their very existence makes me feel squeamish." Like within that group I think there are folks who are like "we need to keep them around to do the labor we don't want to do but I should never have to see them or interact with them" and the people who just want them wiped out because seeing PoC makes them feel icky inside.
White supremacists are weak. Wanting to destroy entire peoples just because the very presence of them makes white supremacists feel threatened or uncomfortable for no reason but that they exist is weakness.
CURRENT MOOD: "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a Black Dwarf, Elf, Anthropomorphic Concept Of Death, or Lord Corlys Velaryon upset that King Viserys won't send reinforcements to the Stepstones, forever."
