Week three of quarantine. I am so tired.
Mar. 31st, 2020 06:49 pmI'm worn out, I've just eaten half of a pan pizza I just made in my 12" iron skillet; because every minute not eating, sleeping, watching Youtube foodie videos, or staring into space has been spent working.
Before all this started two and a half weeks ago, I had a fantasy where my boss called and was like "I can see you have some vacation time. I'll approve it if you want to take some time off during this period."
HAHA NOPE.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I have a job, especially one that will let me work from home. Things have just been going nonstop for the past 14 days or so. I almost hit my limit this morning. But the calls are finally starting to slow down a little.
Then I think about all the doctors and nurses, delivery and postal workers, grocery store workers, cleaning staff, etc who are keeping our society afloat during this time, and I feel like a wimp.
I always get mad when some assholes are like "HURR DURR WHY SHOULD SOMEONE WORKING AT MCDONALDS OR SAFEWAY GET PAID THE SAME WAGE AS AN AMBULANCE DRIVER?" but now it's especially obnoxious. I dunno Janet, maybe because we're finding out that that society would grind to a screeching halt without them?
I think maybe we're learning about a lot of things regarding our society right now that we had formerly just taken for granted.
I think it's really hit home for a lot of people that Universal Healthcare and Universal basic Income are probably things that would help everyone out a lot. And that healthcare never should have been commodified. Some things really shouldn't be.
What would this country look like if it truly worked for its people, instead of people just working for the corporations and the folks at the top level of society?
Maybe Tay Zonday can tell us what's wrong.
