I would like to share with you a revelation I've had.

I realized why it's the perfect time for the Matrix franchise to return: because we are entering year three of this pandemic, and nothing feels real.

Maybe this is one reason for the backlash: maybe people wanted answers or some kind of anchor from the latest installment, but it wasn't made for that. It was made as a part of Lana Wachowski's greiving process after the deaths of people close to her, and it was made because if she didn't make it, Warner Bros. was going to make it without her.
