Packing has started.
Feb. 17th, 2019 10:15 amUnlike most times I have done this (especially last time, when I basically didn't start packing until a few days before the move) I have a plan how this is going to go, everything is going to get properly labeled, and packing is going to be structured in a way where everything is pretty much going to go to the room it needs to go to rather than just having stacks of mystery boxes that we won't know what they are until they get unpacked.
That's the plan, anyway. But things are happening in my mind. Roommate is going to be taking over the daybed, which is not really a contiguous piece of furniture, but a Zinus metal frame+the headboard I made for my old queen bed in 2013, placed horizontally against the wall behind the mattress and metal frame, if that makes sense. Exhibit A:
There are pillows in front of it, but you can kind of tell what's going on here. Anyway, since my Roommate doesn't plan on sleeping in a twin bed for long (and there are generally plenty of marked-down double and queen mattresses in Ikea's scratch and dent area) I'm thinking about taking the upholstery off and building something like this out of the existing wood:
Yes, that is Ikea's Brimnes. But it's basically a large flat rectangular box of wood with cubby/shelf areas on the side, a bunch of butt joints/pocket hole joints? It's totally doable. And I can make it renter-friendly following this plan, but using 2x4s cut to size for the freestanding legs. I have most of the wood scraps I already need for something like this.
I think it's clear that I'm certifiably insane at this point. Maybe I need to look into getting a Makerspace. I also need to actually ask Roommate if they want that kind of headboard: they might want something completely different and be willing to shell out for it. They may just want the original headboard as-is. We might just end up putting the daybed back together the way it originally was after they stop using it. IDK.
