The learned helplessness is a huge problem, but being part of the DSA is doing good things for my brain, even if I am not a very powerful or efficient organizer. I may not be able to march, make things other than simple signs, or throw water balloons full of red paint at cops, no. But I can sign things, call congress-critters, and I am going to start writing letters to the editor of local papers.
I'm going to keep fighting back, because learned helplessness is for people who learn lessons from failure other than "hit it again".
