I’ve been reading Craig Chalquist lately, and one of his things is myth and story as independent entities with their own strength and motivations, independent of creator and audience—entities that can possess you. And I’ve been chatting with a friend about the idea of parasitic stories, the kind that hinder and harm you, and how our society has no way to deal with this, because we don’t have a way to imagine a story having agency outside of creator and audience.
