You know, so many problems have been escalated into real social crises because an "in group" decided that there was a certain type of person to whom anything could be done, and who deserved it, who had it coming - without any kind of reflection, recrimination, or regrets on the part of the in group. And it was always morally justified because the constituents of the in group were "good people." While this phenomenon has always been a part of the human condition, it has gotten especially bad since the advent of the internet and social media.
