The flip side of the nihilism coin is absurdism, and from the inside those feel very different even though they are based on the same fundamental conceit that the world, and therefore life, is meaningless. Doomers and channers etc. Have so much in common because they don’t want to understand that if there’s going to be a light of meaning in the world, that it has to be us. That our actions can hurt real people, or bring balance and justice to those suffering. And they are uncomfy with that responsibility so they ignore it in favor of the kind of fun that is based on not acknowledging suffering by themselves or anyone else. I can easily see that turning to shame and puritanical leanings, even though I don’t think I know anyone that happened to.
