Yes you should be able to - I think he wrote it that way on purpose. The first book is slow to get going, the second picks up speed, and the third one so far is the best imho. CW warning for what is basically chattel slavery and all the horrible things that go with it. Tad is using a specific group to address that and aspects of fascism and authoritarianism, and he is not pulling any punches with it whatsoever.

I almost forgot...there's an "interquel novella," The Heart Of What Was Lost, that picks up right after To Green Angel Tower that is also meant to kind of ease readers of the original trilogy into the new series. It's a quick read - I was able to knock it out in a day. So the new series order is: The Heart Of What Was Lost The Witchwood Crown The Empire Of Grass Into The Narrowdark
