The first time I ever heard Vaporwave, my brain erupted in a cascade of sparks. While my synesthesia normally makes sensory interpretation somewhat surreal, Vaporwave set it into an intense territory I've never experienced before. I wish there was an explanation for it. It's probably a combination of a lot of things.
I wrote a long entry on LJ, whenever I was hearing it for the first time. It was some sort of stream-of-consciousness thing, solely to document what I was experiencing. At one point, I think I described it as "The pink, neon letters above DEB falling into the mall fountain and shorting out," and it included the smells, down to the pennies in said fountain.
Maybe you're right. Maybe there is some way that, in whatever sense, it's tapping into a future that exists, but doesn't exist here.
