I'm sure the answer will be "yes" for the most part, but this question goes out to all of those on my f-list who are writers of either fanfiction, original fiction, or both. Do you ever "see" stories in dreams, complete with a beginning, a middle, and an end, (either in the same dream, or "serialized" over several dreams) that are perfectly sensible and coherent in theme, characterization, and plot structure (or can be made so with only minor tweaking?)

I actually have a few of these, and all of them are still warring to be my NaNo. Here's another one that is now clamoring to be written, based off of a set of dreams I had in 2002 regarding H.P. Lovecraft's Re-animator. The story within the dream served to pull the Re-animator saga more closely within the canon of the Cthulhu Mythos (Lovecraft originally wrote the Re-animator stories as serialized "episodes" within a popular horror magazine of the time as a parody of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and he had not intended Re-animator to be a part of the Mythos itself.)

The story within these dreams that I had basically gave Dr. Herbert West a past (we don't really learn anything in either Lovecraft's original tales or the films that they inspired) and tied the Re-animator stories into the Dreamlands saga as well. It also supposedly explains *why* he's so obsessed with raising the dead...and the explanation my dream gave didn't quite bear a resemblance to any of the reasons given in some of the fanfics that I've read (traumatic death of a loved one, etc.)

I really need to write it one of these days...but it's still not my NaNo. ^_^ Sorry Herbert.

Well, it seems (judging fro mmy f-list) that I'm not the only one in this position. But the story I was going to write for it isn't the story that wants to be written for it.

Basically last night, a story I have had in my head since I was twelve stood up and said, "You're finally going to write me."

0.0 Ok.

It'll still be posted in the same place though, but under an f-lock...because this was one that I have always intended to publish if I could. ^_^

To quote the Merovingian, "We'll see where this goes..."

So...I thought that fanfiction was somehow prohibited from NaNo, but I see a bunch of other people here on the ElJay internets who happen to be writing fanfic. This morning, I got a flash of inspiration while listening to the radio.

My NaNo is going to be a spinoff of my Variations On A Theme project, called Chaos Theory. It's going to feature Agent Smith (of The Matrix of course, LOL) and Lord Jagged (of Michael Moorcock's fiction) predominantly. Think of it as a metaphysical buddy flick/road movie.XD

I've decided that I'm going to start a whole seperate journal for VOAT, and the NaNo stuff in it will be tagged as such.

Speaking of Jagged, I need to find the picture of Arioch from the limited edition of the old AD&D Dieties and Demigods manual with the Melnibonean Pantheon in it. Yet another spin on, "God is busy. Can I help?" >:-) I've seen some of those pics floating around the intarweb, and I just might be able to accomplish this latest Icon Quest myself...

EDIT: What's truly hilarious is in the Elric novels, Arioch is frequently busy, too!

ELRIC: [In Mortal Peril] "OH ARIOCH, PRINCE OF CHAOS! DUKE OF SWORDS AND LORD OF THE SEVEN DARKS! MY COMPANIONS AND I ARE IN MORTAL PERIL AND SEEK THINE AID!"

JAGGED (AS ARIOCH): "Greetings. I'm not in right now, but if you'd please leave a message, The Lord Of The Seven Darks will get back to you as soon as possible..."

ELRIC: #$%$#@%%#^^&**^()!!!!!!!11111"
