How much time do you devote to a 'writers bible?' Do you do a detailed outline, even for fanfic?

I have recently discovered the writers' bibles to almost all my old fanfic on my recovered drives from 2000-2003. (Buckaroo Banzai, X-Files, and Blade Runner for the most part.) I used to actually get so caught up in plotbuilding that I would type up pages and pages of copious notes; so much so that I would actually run out of steam to finish the fic once it was done.

I WROTE BLADE FANFIC?

WHEN DID I WRITE BLADE FANFIC? :O

Is this even mine? Does anyone else do this?

TITLE: Time Of the Assassins
GENRE: Buckaroo Banzai/X Files
RATING:R for Violence
AUTHOR: [livejournal.com profile] numb3r_5ev3n
SYNOPSIS: In which Lo Pep comes to a realization about some of the people he used to work with.
DISCLAIMER: I think Fox owns everything here. No, not that Fox. Or that one. You know the one I mean.

AUTHOR'S NOTES: I've been trying to write Watchmen/Moorcock fic and Hellraiser fic for the past three weeks. This is what's come out instead. Takes place in the Penny Paradox universe (an awesome Buckaroo Banzai fanfic written in 1986/1987 by Leni R. Sommer and Peggy Spaulding – see, I got my start writing fanfic of fanfic) and transpires post-the Buckaroo Banzai/X Files fic that I first attempted in 2003, and that I may just drag out and re-write now that the bug has bitten me again.

Dedicated to Jami Wilsen, who liked the way I wrote Lo Pep back in the day, and always wanted to see more.

His first assailant finally catches up with him in Singapore. It's Gary Omega, AKA Gary The Greek. )

And I wrote fic.

I should probably save time and post this directly to [livejournal.com profile] fuckyouwatchmen, but whatever. ;)

Tomrrow is the big day.

I'm going to be taking baked goods to an election-watching party. I don't want to say anything else, for fear that I'll jinx it. Just that I hope it's in the bag. I swear, if I see one more "TOO CLOSE TO CALL!" splashscreen again after the events of the past eight years.....

Also, more fic. I feel like I have more of a handle on Rorschach this time.

'I already heard on the radio,' Laurie told him, her voice raw-sounding as she eyed the headline of the Gazette on the bed beside her. )

In the end, it's all a joke. )

I'm sure the answer will be "yes" for the most part, but this question goes out to all of those on my f-list who are writers of either fanfiction, original fiction, or both. Do you ever "see" stories in dreams, complete with a beginning, a middle, and an end, (either in the same dream, or "serialized" over several dreams) that are perfectly sensible and coherent in theme, characterization, and plot structure (or can be made so with only minor tweaking?)

I actually have a few of these, and all of them are still warring to be my NaNo. Here's another one that is now clamoring to be written, based off of a set of dreams I had in 2002 regarding H.P. Lovecraft's Re-animator. The story within the dream served to pull the Re-animator saga more closely within the canon of the Cthulhu Mythos (Lovecraft originally wrote the Re-animator stories as serialized "episodes" within a popular horror magazine of the time as a parody of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and he had not intended Re-animator to be a part of the Mythos itself.)

The story within these dreams that I had basically gave Dr. Herbert West a past (we don't really learn anything in either Lovecraft's original tales or the films that they inspired) and tied the Re-animator stories into the Dreamlands saga as well. It also supposedly explains *why* he's so obsessed with raising the dead...and the explanation my dream gave didn't quite bear a resemblance to any of the reasons given in some of the fanfics that I've read (traumatic death of a loved one, etc.)

I really need to write it one of these days...but it's still not my NaNo. ^_^ Sorry Herbert.

...but it just sort of happened. >.< I blame you, Billy Squier!

There's danger out tonight
the man is on the prowl
Get the dynamite
the boys are set to howl
Lonely is the night
when you hear the voices call
Are you ready for a fight?
Do you wanna take it all?

This one goes out to Jami Wilsen, wherever you are.

I actually made this on a cassette, back in 1996 and 1997, before things like Soulseek and Limewire. I think I'll make it again, WITH those things this time. Soooo much easier.

SOUNDTRACK:

Def Leppard - Work It Out (I'll be surprised if anyone remembers this song - it was kind of a "flash in the pan" for the Leppard, but the lyrics are PERFECT.)
The Fugees - No Woman No Cry
The Fugees - Killing Me Softly
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression That I Get (Garibaldi's theme song! Amiright? Amiright?)
Porno For Pyros - Tahitian Moon
No Doubt - Spiderwebs
Queen - Liar
Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside Of A Broken Phonebooth With Money In My Hands
Pat Bentar - Shadows Of The Night
Enya - La Sonadora
Enya - The Memory of Trees
Enya - On My Way Home

I think I'll add:
Tool - 46 & 2
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Massive Attack - Exchange (Both Versions)
Massive Attack - Dissolved Girl
Def Leppard - Action (Morden's theme song, yay! For some reason, Def Leppard seems to hit things right on the money.)
Dead Can Dance - Garden of the Arcane Delights - Carnival of Lights
Dead Can Dance - Garden of the Arcane Delights - Musica Eternal
Dead Can Dance - Garden of the Arcane Delights - Flowers of the Sea
No Doubt feat. Moby - Southside

...And more, as I think of them.
